What Does Low-E Glass Do?
The sun’s energy has three ranges of wavelengths:
- Visible light
- Ultraviolet light, which you can’t see
- Infrared light, which you feel as heat
Low-E glass has a special microscopic coating that prevents ultraviolet light and reduces infrared light, while still allowing bright visible light to pass through. This helps keep the summer’s heat out and the winter’s heat in.
Low-E glass also blocks a majority of the ultraviolet light that can fade rugs, curtains, fabrics, and floors, helping to protect your investment for years to come. Ultraviolet light is the number one cause of furniture and fabric fading and discoloration.
If you own an older home with original hardwood floors, chances are you’ve seen what years of sun damage can do in those sunny places on the floor. Reach out to us to learn more about our Low-E glass options.
3D and 3D Max Energy Packages
For those who want to take energy performance a step further, we offer two energy packages that combine multiple technologies for superior efficiency. These two packages, called 3D® and 3D MAX®, are named because they address energy efficiency through the three dimensions of a window: frame, product design, and glazing unit.
Components in these packages can include technologies such as SunCoat®, SunCoatMAX® Low-E glass, argon gas, EdgeGard™, and EdgeGardMAX™ spacers.
